When the Fog Lifts

When the Fog Lifts

Every morning, I take sunrise walks with my fur baby, Link. Since moving to a small town in Wisconsin, I’ve fallen in love with the quiet farmland, the tall pines, and the calming sound of the creek. These walks always set the tone for my day.

One morning, the thickest fog I’ve ever seen rolled in. The whole world disappeared behind a white veil. The road ahead was swallowed, as if by some fluffy cloud monster.

It struck me as the perfect metaphor for perception. In fog, you can only see the small circle right around you — maybe ten meters ahead. Beyond that, everything is invisible. But as you move, your circle of vision moves with you. It’s as if you are a lantern lighting your own path.

We live like this all the time. Each of us is a lantern — shining, guiding, creating. But the “fog” around us—worries, doubts, overthinking, fears, attachments—blocks that light. It makes us forget the incredible creative power we already have.

So many people think they’re not creative because they can’t paint or play an instrument. But creativity isn’t limited to the arts. It’s in cooking a meal, planning a trip, making your home feel cozy, dreaming up possibilities. When the fog clears, creativity flows naturally — because it’s not something you have to earn, it’s something you already are.

The practice is in letting go. Letting go of attachment, of needing things to be permanent in a world that is always changing. Letting go of the illusion that our suffering is caused by others, rather than by our own clinging. Letting go of the noise long enough to see clearly.

That morning, when Link and I returned home, the fog had lifted. The sunlight spilled across the clouds in pink and orange hues, glowing on the pond. The world was bright and clear again — as if the lantern within me had suddenly turned up its light to illuminate everything.

When you find yourself in the fog, remember: you are your own lantern. Practice letting go, and notice how your creativity shines through in unexpected ways.

I’d love to know — what helps you clear your inner fog? And how does your Soul like to creatively express itself?

If this reflection resonated with you, I invite you to explore my little world of colors and creations. Each piece is a part of my own lantern-light shining out into the world — maybe it will inspire your own creative spark, or simply bring a moment of beauty to your day.
